Service & Maintenance

Fluid Analysis Laboratory

Proper fluid (oils, greases and fuel) maintenance is imperative to keep engines and generators operating at peak performance. The key to proper fluid maintenance is performing scheduled maintenance, as recommended by your equipment manufacturer, and by monitoring and analyzing your used fluids with Scheduled Oil Sampling (S•O•S™). By monitoring and analyzing your equipment throughout its lifecycle you are able to identify problems before they grow into major repairs thereby optimizing performance, maximizing productivity, protecting valuable equipment, reducing operating costs and increasing resale values. Yancey’s S•O•S Fluid Analysis service can provide you with this valuable service.

Using sophisticated analytical technology, Yancey’s experienced Lab Technicians perform testing on oil and coolant samples that have been taken at regularly scheduled intervals. All of these tests determine the condition of the used oil samples. Yancey’s expertise is to analyze the condition of your used oil combined with our knowledge of Caterpillar product and provide you with easy-to-understand, clear, concise and timely interpretive reports which provide recommendations or actions specific to each fluid compartment. We are also available to answer any questions you have on fluid analysis and interpretations, as well as discuss report specific recommendations and readings.

We will help you develop a plan uniquely suited to your operation, taking into consideration the various models of equipment that you operate, the kind of work you do and your current maintenance practices.

S•O•S Fluid Analysis is one of the most important maintenance support programs available.
Here’s why:
• Detects problems early, so they can be repaired before they become major failures.
• Helps you schedule downtime to fit your workload.
• Monitors positives as well as negatives, so that you won’t have to pay for repair of components that are not worn out.
• Allows you to monitor maintenance schedules to verify that routine maintenance has been performed.
• Enables you to better manage budgets by predicting repairs, downtime and equipment life.
• Helps you develop a complete service history for each generator. This proves invaluable when evaluating performance and planning replacement purchases.
• Documents service history for a higher price at trade-in or sale.

Other labs provide you with an oil condition report on your oil; Yancey analyzes your components and your fluids. As the authorized Caterpillar Dealer for Georgia, Yancey has access to Caterpillar proprietary wear tables derived from equipment like yours around the globe.

Yancey’s new Fluid Analysis Lab was opened in 2014 and is the only oil analysis laboratory in Georgia that can compare the wear elements in your oil to hundreds of other similar pieces of equipment to determine if the condition and trends in your fluids are normal or in need of your attention.

Although you will receive an elemental analysis that lists each element individually, you don’t have to be a chemist to understand the results. We will interpret the analysis and summarize the findings into an easy to read, color coded report. Our reporting system uses a manage by exception process, where; green indicates “No Action Required”, yellow indicates you need to “Monitor”, and red calls for “Action Required”. Some examples of suggested actions may be to resample or change oil at a shortened time frame, or inspect the contents of a filter.

Yancey Power can provide easy access to your samples through our StoreFront web site, called S•O•S Services Web. From this site, you can search for and view your samples, email them to others, log comments, graph trends, and attach related files. More than 95% of the samples received in our lab are analyzed, interpreted, and uploaded to the web within 24 hours.

S•O•S Services Web also provides a means to quickly fill out the label with the information required to process your sample, eliminating the possibility of errors due to inaccuracies. Filling out the on-line labels is quick and easy with drop down menus and point and click options. Your equipment by serial number and/or your equipment number is loaded into the system to assist with the selection process.
